Our Annual Gift to the Chapel Hill Public Library
On Wednesday, May 10, 2006, at the annual meeting of The Friends of the Chapel Hill Public Library, we presented a check in the amount of $30,000 to Kathleen Thompson, Director of the Chapel Hill Public Library. This is the largest amount that we have ever given as our annual gift. The money is used to further the goals of the Library by augmenting the annual budget provided by the Town of Chapel Hill. This year we also gave $6,000 for the purchase of books for "The Friends Book Shelf" and $2,400 in support of programs for children.
Established in 1958 and incorporated as a department of the Town of Chapel Hill in 1976, the Chapel Hill Public Library serves the residents of Chapel Hill and southern Orange County. The Library was recently ranked 1st in the state of North Carolina in an annual index that ranks American public libraries according to scores that measure a variety of factors, including per-capita expenditures and circulation.
The Chapel Hill Public Library is one of the busiest public libraries in the state. Thank you for helping us make it also the very best!
