Friends of Chapel Hill Public Library

Programs for Adults - Book Sales

Throughout the year, community members donate their new and gently used books to the Friends in support of the Library. Some of these books go directly to the Library shelves; the rest are sold at our quarterly book sales. Book sales are held at the Chapel Hill Public Library in February, May, August, and November.

Donating Books

The Friends happily accept donations of books, CDs, DVDs, and cassette and VHS tapes. Please bring all items to the Library during regular Library hours. Small donations (five or fewer items) are accepted at the Reception Desk just inside in the Library; larger donations must be delivered by way of the staff entrance at the loading dock in the lower-level parking lot. Ring the bell and a staff member will assist you.

Please note that the Friends do not accept magazines or journals (except by special arrangement), outdated textbooks, or books about business, economics, education, law, sociology, etc. (unless they are of general or historical interest). Exceptions to the above include books by local authors and books about North Carolina.

The Bookworms

Every Thursday morning for more than 30 years, the Bookworms gather unpack, categorize, price and repack books and other items for the book sales. The Bookworms are Virginia Powell, Jean Seaman, and Margie Pfaff. They rely on a group of dedicated volunteers who work as set-up helpers, cashiers, and clean-up crew. If you would like to volunteer to help at our book sales, please call Margie Pfaff at (919) 942-1309 or send her an email.
